Paul Kooiker at Acne Paper Palais Royal, Paris (FR)

Acne Paper presents 2025, a solo exhibition by Paul Kooiker, inaugurating Acne Paper Palais Royal, the brand’s first permanent gallery space in Paris (FR).

Located beneath the storied arcades of the Palais Royal, Acne Paper Palais Royal marks a significant moment in the brand’s cultural evolution. The gallery extends Acne Studios’ ongoing dialogue with the worlds of art, design, photography, publishing, and craftsmanship.

In his exhibition 2025 Paul Kooiker presents forty-two portraits of art students of the Gerrit Rietveld academy in Amsterdam. While reminiscent of the tradition of school portraiture, which typically commemorates milestones in academic and personal development, these images observe the unstable present. Where the desires of youth collide with the unknown. Where hope and despair are forced to coexist. A moment where everything we build, the supposed securities of a bright future can be swept away by external factors. Kooiker presents the tension with refreshing pragmatism, refusing to be solemn or sentimental, instead acknowledging the fortitude of the next generation in facing the challenges ahead.

On view until 27 July, 2025.
