The work stands on a 2‑meter-long metal rod, which was a part of the former kitchen of Kunsthal Gent. Looking up, you see a strip of bird spikes attached on top of it. Two white ceramic eggs are impaled on the spikes. Spilliaert was struck by the fact that, despite this obstacle, doves sometimes manage to create a nest there.
On the one hand, the work depicts the humorous failure of the fight against egg-laying nature, and on the other, it reflects on our interaction with our environment and the question of who has the right to decide who may or may not reproduce, and why.
With this edition, the artist returns the work to Kunsthal Gent in a new, shareable format. For this occasion, two ceramic eggs were also installed in the Kunsthal Gent garden, which are part of the Endless Exhibition.
