Temples (2018) is based on found photographs of classical ruins. The artist edited the photos by digitally expanding the columns, thereby emphasizing the megalomaniac character of the buildings. The photographic image surface was treated by Anna Vogel with precisely carved out lines. These last remnants of early cities are symbols of the power and the glory of a civilization, but also of destruction and vanitas. They testify to the way in which people continue to try to live together. And how a regime like democracy and the positive values associated therewith, such as tolerance and equal rights for everyone, became gradually accepted, yet at the same time it shows how vulnerable democracy can be and how easily it could be lost.
