Poison (2018) is based on found footage, more specifically photographs of flowers. The found photographs are altered through digital manipulation. Anna Vogel changed the form and colour of the flowers and removed fragments, such as flower petals. As such, the flowers seem to float in a dark atmosphere. The treatment of the prints with very fine varnish spray in different colours adds a grainy texture and creates a special haptic effect. Poison is related to New Cities, as both series refer to the forms and structures of plants, and the magic of the chemical reactions that take place in plants on a microscopic level. Central to this work is our relationship with the earth and more specifically the downside of genetic manipulation. The flowers may look seductive, but they can be toxic.
