Guillaume Bijl at CINEMATEK, Brussels (BE)

This Saturday 06/06 at 5 pm at CINEMATEK Brussels. Come and see the filmprogram with new and and historical films!

Placing imitation at the heart of his work—here in the service of his exploration of 20th-century art history and the fetishism associated with it—the artist Guillaume Bijl (1946–2025) conceives, down to the smallest detail, and in the spirit of a film made about (and featuring a fake) James Ensor, a film about the ‘pope of surrealism’ and his artist friends at his residence in the South of France. Directed posthumously by his close collaborator Wim Catrysse and juxtaposed with historical films from our collections, it questions the notions of the archive, historical reality and artistic legacy.

In the presence of Nadia Bijl, filmmaker Wim Catrysse and producer Ulrike Lindmayr.
