EXHIBITION: 03.10 – 15.11.2015
Arne Quinze was inspired to make Cityview by his numerous travel experiences throughout the recent years. In his quest for diversity he often concluded that nearly every city in the world is built up as a monotonous pattern of little squares. This uninspired design, often employed by building promotors and architects, is, according to Quinze, detrimental to the cultural and social development of our modern cities.
“This curiosity for how we live, how we communicate and our relationship with nature feed the investigation behind my public installations and works. Man is always the essence of my work.” – Arne Quinze.
in the creation of Cityview the artist photographed examples of urban development in different parts of the world and used these pictures as research to determine the pattern of his Cityview series. The amount of details and layers with which Arne Quinze created his Cityview series, invites the spectator in, to have a closer look. Man’s instinct to analyse things in a voyeuristic manner, is utilised by the artist to encourage a dialogue questioning current urban difficulties.
Cityview shows Arne Quinze’s very personal view on the monotonous city and calls on the spectator to be more aware of how we should build communities that are more habitable, more enjoyable.
